Tripadvisor review goes viral after complaint that Llyn Tegid doesn’t have a McDonald’s

24 Jul 2021 2 minute read

A two-star review left on Tripadvisor has been causing an online stir after a visitor to Llyn Tegid complained about the lack of a nearby McDonald’s.

The negative review has been posted by somebody from Merseyside who visited Wales’ largest natural lake on June 13th.

Headed ‘Don’t expect a McDonald’s but expect to pay over £5 for one ice cream’ it describes the person’s frustration on finding out that the nearest McDonald’s restaurant is 23 miles away.

It states: “On Sunday 13/06/21 I paid a visit to Bala lake, when we arrived the sun was cracking the flags and it seemed lovely but as the day proceeded I noticed something very worrying, as my friends and family were munching down on a barbecue I googled the directions to the nearest McDonald’s, to my surprise the closest one was 23 miles away.”

‘Decent’

The Gwynedd town has many ‘decent’ eateries, including the highly popular Aran Hufen Ia and Cyfnod Cafe Bistro, but the nearest McDonalds is 23.1 miles along the A5 at Chirk Retail Park.

The review continues: “Is it me or does this seem very worrying and the some sort of a food Mafia in Bala what prevents decent takeaways from opening, people need to remember that McDonald’s is a universal restaurant and there is something for everybody there so I’m very disappointed that the food mafia has prevented McDonald’s from opening.”

The review was spotted by Twitter user Geraint Davies (@fedwarian) who commented: “As locals, we too are annoyed that the food mafia of our town make us eat all the top quality food they have on offer!”

Another user, @RhyddidiGymru, quipped that: “I once walked into a cafe in Wales and they were all eating burgers and chips, but as soon as they saw me they all switched to eating moules mariniere, caviar and truffles.

Despite this reviewer’s complaints about the Bala ‘food mafia’, Llyn Tegid receives overwhelmingly positive reviews on Trip Advisor with an overall 4.5 rating.

Funnily enough, I was researching a local serial killer and looking through execution records. True story, all those hanged for bestiality with sheep were English, mostly Nurthern English.

Hard to tell sometimes. I suppose a newspaper can have a segment for silly stories?

Could be a wind-up merchant, could be an idiot. Could be both.

The jaded palette and complete ignorance on just about everything I can forgive. I mean I’ve come to expect it from certain quarters. But the comment about “…munching down on barbecue …” must be punished severely.
No decent living. Wing has ever “munched down on” anything. I mean I know it’s only English getting mangled, not the language of the blessed, but nonetheless it just makes me shudder with revulsion

When the McDonald’s opened in Newtown the litter in Montgomeryshire increased exponentially. Each happy meal should be subject to a £2 litter surcharge and each cup a £1. I’ve got a photo somewhere of the golden arches looming over the plains of Jezreel in Israel, a place better known by its Greek name, Armageddon.

Ruthin Town refuses almost every major chain in favour for businesses owned by locals ensuring entrepreneurs are in a fair market, it’s commendable and retains the quaint welsh town feeling that many of its counterparts have lost by cowtowing to heathen junk food addicts

McDonalds should never ever be given planning permission to open anywhere in Cymru!

X No. of very averagely paid jobs and questionable ‘food’ on one side V obesity, carbon emmissions, animal exploitation, traffic, extraction of money from local economies and endless litter on the other….where is the ####### logic in any of that!!!!?
