Labour trying to ‘out-nationalist the nationalists’ Welsh Secretary says
Labour are fighting to “out-nationalist the nationalists” in Wales, the Welsh Secretary will say at tomorrow’s Welsh Conservative Conference.
Simon Hart will make the accusation against Mark Drakeford’s Labour party as he rallies his party for the upcoming Senedd election on May 6.
Simon Hart will add that a “Conservative victory has never been more possible,” with a recent poll showing the Conservatives within 2% of the Labour party on the constituency vote.
“As Welsh Labour fight to out-nationalist the nationalists, our vision is one of positivity and hope, and puts Wales at the centre of a Global Britain in a world full of new opportunities,” he will say.
“Ladies and Gentleman – we are only 2% behind Labour, the closest we have ever been. Every vote really counts.
“A Labour victory is not inevitable. A Conservative victory has never been more possible.”
‘Bold’
A poll at the beginning of the week suggested that Labour could drop five constituency seats at the election.
The Vale of Glamorgan, the Vale of Clwyd, Gower, Wrexham and Cardiff North are projected to be gained by the Tories, according to the projection.
Simon Hart will say that “22 years of Labour rule in Wales had left the country in fragile economic shape even before the pandemic”.
“We need a Government in Cardiff Bay that will work hand in hand with the UK Government to build a better Wales for everyone. Andrew RT Davies and his team are offering that chance in May.
“As voters would expect from a credible future Welsh Government, we have a responsible recovery plan in our manifesto that confronts challenges created by Covid.
“In offering bold, fair solutions to long-standing problems, as well as those created by Covid, this party is showing how committed we are to a prosperous Wales – unwavering even in a global health crisis.”
